It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

• Mount and dismount the agricultural tractor safely
• Understand the purpose and meaning of the instrumentation
• Understand the function of all controls
• Understand the hazards associated with using controls
• Understand the reasons for daily checks
• Start and stop the engine in a safe manner
• Be competent in driving an agricultural tractor in a forward and reverse direction
• Leave the tractor in a safe state
• Competently perform checking of the lubrication, cooling and air intake of the engine, perform basic lubrication of the tractor and ensure the tractor is in a safe road going state
• Attach a mounted implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction.
• Attach a trailed implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction through a restriction.
• Leave unattached implements in a safe state
• Correctly attach a PTO shaft between tractor and implement
• Attach the PTO shaft guards correctly
• Assess the minimum turning circle of the machine and the angle of the PTO shaft.
• Carry out basic operations using tractor mounted loader.

To operate a machine within the workplace, whether for construction, waste, agriculture or other industry, your employer has a duty of care to ensure you can operate safely and competently. What is this course about?
To provide candidates with a thorough understanding of the relevant operational and safety requirements, applicable to tractor operators, working in the construction, waste or agricultural industry or similar environment.

What are the benefits?

Any person required to operate a tractor in a construction, utilities or similar environment.

Training Methods:
Mainly hands on practical exercises using our machine with some classroom based tutorials and discussion.

 

Do I Need a Driver’s Licence to Operate a Tractor?
No, you only require a driver’s license if you wish to drive a tractor on a public road.

Category F licence: Required for agricultural tractors. If you hold a Category B (car) licence, you automatically have Category F entitlement.

Category H licence: Required for track-laying tractors on public roads.

Age Requirements:
16 years old: Can drive tractors up to 2.45m wide, towing trailers up to 2.45m wide with 2 wheels or 4 close-coupled wheels.
17 years and older: Can drive all tractors with the correct entitlement.
21 years and older: Can drive all tractors and other non-tractor agricultural motor vehicles (requires a Category B licence).

Non-Agricultural Use:
Category F licences only apply to tractors used primarily for agriculture or forestry.

If the tractor is used for other purposes, you need a goods vehicle licence:

Category C1E: For vehicles up to 12 tonnes MAM (or 8.25 tonnes if the licence was issued before 1997).
Category CE: For vehicles over 7.5 tonnes MAM (or 8.25 tonnes for pre-1997 licences).
