Aurelia delivers Blackwell’s training programme to support their sites in East Anglia.
As one of the UK’s largest earthworks, restoration and soil stabilisation providers, Blackwell Earthmoving Limited is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2026 and continues working across the UK with many of the country’s major civil engineering contractors.
Over the last ten years, Blackwell has delivered support to the largest UK construction and infrastructure projects, including the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme, the Heathrow Airport Expansion Project, HS2 and two separate projects at Sizewell C.
Andy Cardie, Training Manager for Blackwell, is responsible for the training of all of Blackwell’s employees. It is a key consideration when working on large-scale projects throughout the UK that training can be sourced locally as close as possible to these sites. As part of their work in East Anglia, they were first introduced to Aurelia and their team. The timing was perfect with Aurelia having just been acquired by Blacks of Bacton and in a great position to commence the rollout of Blackwell’s training plans.
The breadth of training courses available from Aurelia to Blackwell covers plant training, including excavators, rollers and tractors, as well as vocational-based training, including NVQ Levels 2, 3 & 6. On top of this, fire warden and wider fire training plus mental health courses are all available, meaning so much of their training needs are covered by one local training operator. In the first year alone, over eighty people from the Blackwell team have completed training with Aurelia.
However, to complement the excellent breadth of training courses, Andy sees huge value in Aurelia’s approach, which helps get training completed – sometimes at very short notice.

With the fast-paced nature of the construction industry, having a local training provider nearby and available is so important for the types of projects Blackwell works on. “Aurelia just understands what we need and makes it happen. They are easy to deal with, and we do not need to chase things with Claire and the team. There is no need for us to consider more than one local supplier.”
